Car Rental in Thailand

Thailand offers many wonderful things to visitors, one of them being the scenic view of nature. Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy a road trip around Thailand while exploring different places at their own pace.

If you are looking to rent a car in Thailand, here are some useful tips that you need to know before planning your road trip in this amazing country.

What You Need

• International Driver’s License

Make sure that you have a valid driver’s license before coming to Thailand if you want to rent a car. You can get an international driver’s license in your origin country or in Thailand.

Getting an international driver’s license in Thailand requires a valid visa and a Thai driver’s license of at least 5 years and 2 two-inch photos. The fee is 505 Baht.

• Valid passport or ID

You would need a valid passport with a visa covering your entire stay or an identification card.

• Flight Details

You may need to show your flight details of when you have arrived and when you will depart Thailand.

• Valid Visa

Make sure that you have a valid visa stamped on your passport showing that you are eligible to rent a car in Thailand.

• Deposit Cash

Some car rental companies may require you to place a deposit in cash. The deposit amount can range from 5,000 Baht to 20,000 Baht depending on the type of vehicle you choose.

• Credit Card

As a form of payment, some car rental companies may require payment by credit card.

Driving in Thailand

Driving in Thailand or any foreign country requires familiarity with driving and good driving skills, especially in Thailand. Thai people generally drive safely but like any occasion, accidents can happen at any time. Especially in Bangkok where the traffic rules are in place but the number of vehicles is immense, making it difficult to drive.

In Thailand, people drive on the left and you have to keep in mind that driving on the road in Thailand means driving alongside other vehicles such as motorcycles, 3-wheeled vehicles, trucks, and more.

When it comes to renting a car or any vehicle in Thailand, make sure to always take photos of the vehicle’s conditions before driving. For any external damage caused you will, of course, have to be responsible but it is essential to stay safe by having your own proof of the vehicle’s original conditions.
